CABE recognises park champions

Designers of 2004 announced

CABE has named its champions of design for 2004. One of the Festive Five awards goes to London’s Mile End Park director Michael Rowan for “transforming the park” after “the initial £25 million investment failed due to poor maintenance”. The citation added: “Rowan really knows how to run a park and is showing what leadership and commitment can achieve in an urban setting.” He said: “I’m surprised and thrilled. I didn’t know about this. The award is really for the local community and the staff who work in the park.” CABE praised Prudential Property Investment Managers for building the 520ha Kennet Valley Park Project and 7,500 affordable homes on its old site after relocating to India. Wakefield Metropolitan District Council won plaudits for its Green Space Strategy Team, led by Bob Pipkin, because of the work done on creating a green space strategy. CABE also congratulated it for work done in Castleford for the Channel 4 regeneration project
