The MT2600 is the latest design from the Swedish subsidiary of the Thule Group and it’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into it.
The MT2600 is just the right size to carry a mini excavator by any of the leading names, be it a Bobcat, Kubota, JCB, Volvo, Case, Caterpillar, Hyundai, New Holland or Takeuchi.
And being compact means it will be easier to move around, down narrow country lanes or across town.
The chassis is welded and hot galvanised so rust should not be a problem. In fact, the whole construction of the MT2600 is high-quality. But it’s the attention to detail and the features incorporated for safety and ease of use that most impress our tester.
“It’s a really good-quality trailer. I like the way the tie rings are folded away and stored in recesses within the trailer. They look strong enough to take a ratchet strap and mean there are no sticking-out struts that extend beyond the trailer’s size,” he says.
At the front of the trailer, beyond the platform and keeping the trailer platform compact, is a bucket rest. A built-in step helps the operator to demount from the digger and trailer once the machine is parked in place.
The tester inspects the ramp. It is heavy-duty, welded and hot galvanised but because it is mounted with two springs, he is able to lift and lower the tailboard with one hand.
Integrated prop stands, designed to relieve the pressure on the trailer when the digger is driven up and down the ramp, automatically fold down as the tailboard is lowered.
Another recent development from Brenderup is the three-way tipper. Model 3505 has internal dimensions of 3.08m by 1.79m and a payload of 2,552kg. Tipping is at the push of a button and, because it is easy to alter the tipping direction, it gives easy and convenient unloading to suit the site. In other words, if you can’t get sufficient room at the rear, decant the load out of the side.
There has been no skimping on the construction. The platform has many cross bars to provide good support and the rear end of the platform is reinforced to take the heavy load from the optional ramps. Other options include a high cover, extension sides and mesh sides, making it suitable for carrying wood waste from tree surgery work.
The range of trailers bearing the Brenderup brand is huge. There are plant and car transporters, a wide selection of general-purpose trailers and cargo-liners or box vans. Offered in a variety of formats, we are told the cargo-liners are popular with contractors needing to provide all-weather transport for planting stock and for “out-of-sight” shifting of small mowers and power tools.
