Border Alpines, now based in Holsworthy, North Devon but formerly of Shropshire, is a former winner of the RHS Farrer Trophy at the show and has won numerous awards at other RHS flower shows. To celebrate its 25th Malvern show anniversary, owners Jan and Carl Lowe will be presenting their 25th customer on each day of the show with a special gift to say thank you.
Jan Lowe said: "We have been growing and selling plants for over 35 years now and when our children were younger, and on hand to help us, we used to exhibit at all the major flower shows. They are all pursuing their own careers now and have families of their own, but we all still come together for Malvern Spring Festival every year – the best flower show there is in our opinion! Some of our Malvern customers have bought plants from us every show for the past 25 years and we’re looking forward to seeing them again next week."
Carl Lowe breeds new plants to introduce to market, often named after members of the family. The latest of these is a hardy geranium, Geranium cinereum ‘Melody’, named for his love of music and launched at Malvern Spring Festival in 2014 to much fanfare from Carol Klein. He said: "There’s something quite special about nurturing a seedling, waiting for it to flower and then discovering a new colour break. We have had several over the years but ‘Melody’ was really exciting as it is as close to red as we’ve achieved to date, a colour very unusual for the type of geraniums we grow. It’s proved both strong and attractive, a perfect combination, and will no doubt be popular at the show again this year."
