The results are attributed to increased distribution as well as incremental sales through existing garden retail customers. A highlight was the introduction of the new Chelsea Mix enriched all-purpose compost which trades on the back of Bord na Móna’s long-term involvement with the winning Chelsea Flower Show designers, the Rich Brothers.
Bord na Móna said consistent quality, reliability of supply and education of the consumer with campaign that aimed to encourage customers to choose products with less peat content "at your own pace", had all contributed to the company’s success.
Head of Consumer UK, Charles Farmer said: "Our share of the market continues to be built on top quality in both peat-based and peat-free growing media and we will continue developing this ‘one stop shop’ approach. The philosophy is to give trade customers the reassurance of buying best in class, while ensuring that the consumer gets great results every time.
"We are also developing new products, new storage facilities and new distribution routes to service existing and prospective accounts and will use our brand potential, production and logistics capabilities to back these up."
