In December 2013 the Council received confirmation that its bid to the Parks for People Programme from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund had been successful securing nearly £3.5 million for the Lesnes Abbey Woods Enhancement Project (PDF).).

The grant is funding a wide range of improvements, including a new community and education hub building, outdoor classrooms, restoration of historical features, improved gateways, pathways and signage and more recreation facilities.

During the project Blakedown will be working closely with the council's design team, MeiLoci Landscape Architects and an archaeologist to improve and enhance the park facilities.
