H2CoCo boasts a rehydration time for compressed coir that is up to 50 times faster than standard wetting agents thanks to the product's InstaWet technology, which enables it to act as a wetting and spreading agent, penetrating agent and re-wetting agent.
Where it would normally take around two-to-three days to completely hydrate compressed coir growbags ready to plant, by using H2CoCo the time is slashed to under an hour.
The volume of water used is also slashed, aiding water management efficiency. The consequence, says supplier Cocogreen, is that using H2CoCo makes compressed coir growbags a highly attractive option compared to loose coir growbags that previously had the advantage of wetting up more quickly but require considerably more labour to position in the field.
Meanwhile, the product's spreading and penetration characteristics ensure both water and fertiliser move vertically and horizontally throughout the entire substrate, assisting the best root growth and crop productivity.
Major strawberry supplier Mansfields has observed that using H2CoCo led to almost immediate growbag moisture levels of more than 50 per cent. Without H2CoCo, 10 per cent of growbags typically struggle to exceed 35 per cent over time.
In addition, where H2CoCo has been used throughout the growing season, monitoring has shown stable improvements to moisture levels and distribution throughout the whole coir substrate, while overall irrigation and fertiliser usage was reduced.
Research in the USA with field-grown tomatoes has shown that a comparable yield was obtained using 75 per cent of the normal water applied when using Cocogreen coir in combination with H2CoCo. The product also brought on earlier yields.
