Bell's said: "Finally after a cold and gloomy January, sales are away.
"Week six has seen primrose sales rocket and we are now warming up the crop to keep up with the demand."
Outdoor plant sales across the industry in January started slower than in 2016, with companies such as Javado and Profitplant recording sales a few per cent down on the previous year because of colder weather.
In 2010 Bell's celebrated 50 years in horticultural production. This was followed in 2012 with the completion of another two acres of state-of-the-art growing facilities along with a new outlet for retail and cash and carry customers.
In 2013 the business expanded into the bulb market with a takeover of Alex EuroTrading.
* Bells hosted a school visit by pupils from St Georges Preparatory School this week who were keen to learn about how plants grow and what is involved in this process. They were shown the stages of a commercial nursery from planting to packing.
