One Angel Square enabling the council to relocate 2,000 employees from 12 separate properties into one BREEAM Excellent building with 22,000sqm of flexible office space.
The intention for the development was for it to also kick start regeneration in the area. The building’s entrance faces a new public space, Angel Square, which forms part of a potential new sequence of public spaces linking All Saints Church to St John’s Church and its gardens.
BDP said that the building is designed as two ‘yin and yang’ forms enclosing a central courtyard, with office space, informal meeting areas, touchdown areas and other collaborative spaces grouped around it.
BDP was architect, civil and structural engineer, building services engineer, landscape architect, interior designer, lighting designer and acoustic consultant for the £40m building which was won in competition in 2013.
