Holly House forms part of a new development, built on the site of an old house and lake. Louisa Bell from The Lovely Garden and Esse Landscapes overcame the complexity of the levels and made-up ground to create a large family garden and worked with a large number of different managers at the centre over the past two years, developing a good working relationship with each of them.

The judges noted: "This was a challenging scheme for both designer and contractor, who had to work with entirely ‘made-up’ ground. The design solution works very well, overcoming a 3m depth of builder’s rubble, extremely difficult drainage issues and working with steep falls.

"The focal point of the very pleasing rear garden design is an attractive pavilion at the top of the garden. The quality of the build throughout is excellent. All electrical work, including a very nice lighting scheme, was undertaken by the contractor, who qualified specifically to carry out the project. The amount of hard landscaping required was minimised by using gravel and timber and the garden has been brought to life with a large lawn and gorgeous planting scheme. This project epitomises real commitment from the designer, outstanding workmanship by the contractor and the results that can be achieved when the two combine."
