Bakker launches trio fruit trees

Bakker Spalding has announced the launch of a small apple tree that produces three different varieties of apples - Elstar, Golden Delicious and Jonagored apples.

It has also released a trio currant bush that grows to one metre high. Both plants are suitable for growing in a pot on a small balcony or terrace.

Online and catalgue retailer Bakker Spalding Garden Company managing director Adrian Nind said:

"Our recent study on gardening across Europe showed that 38 percent of people in the UK would love to grow apples in their garden. Not everybody has the space to grow full-sized fruit trees, which is why we’ve come up with this ‘Mini Orchard’ range with a special trio apple tree and trio currant bush, which will fit perfectly in a container on your balcony, porch or patio – whatever the size of your garden."

The trio apple tree grows the red Jonagored (variety of Jonagold) apple, the yellow-green Golden Delicious and the red-yellow Elstar. If grown in a container, the maximum height of the stem will be approximately 1.25 metres.

The trio currant bush is also suitable to grow in small spaces such as a balcony or terrace, containing three varieties of currant: red currant 'Jonkheer van Tets', blackcurrant 'Titania' and whitecurrant 'White Pearl'.
