B&M Bargains beats spring sales records

Sales grew by 17.8% at B&M's UK stores to £598.4m, with like-for-like sales jumping by 7.3% for the 26 March 2017 to 24 June 2017 period.

The company said that its UK sales had been boosted by the warm weather, as customers shopped for garden and outdoor accessories and furniture. It has more than 100 garden centre sections in stores. Buyer is Nigel Press.

"In these uncertain times, and with inflation returning to the UK market, more and more shoppers are actively seeking out value in our stores and that means our business is strongly positioned to do well and continue its rapid growth," said Simon Arora, chief executive.

Nine new UK stores opened to make 543 shops trading. B&M plans to open between 40 and 50 new shops this year as part of its plan to meet its target of having at 950.
