Artificial grass sales rocket

B&Q has reported a doubling in sales of artificial grass thanks to the dry weather.

Britain has had the second lowest level of rainfall between January-June since 1914.

B&Q has sold 22,000sqm of fake grass this year, while Evergreens has been selling 15,000 sqm a week, 35% higher than last year.

Artificial turf from Easigrass was allowed at the Chelsea Flower Show 2010 for the first time in designer Tony Smith's garden.

But Gardeners' Question Time panellist Pippa Greenwood said that fake grass was "unbelievably revolting" and an environmental "disaster zone".
