Amenity Forum launches Get Moving campaign

A campaign aimed at bolstering pride in and understanding of the amenity sector was launched this morning at the Amenity Forum Conference.

The multimedia ‘Get Moving’ campaign comprises a series of marketing resources – edugraphics (educational graphics), animated videos, leaflets and posters – covering the various amenity sectors which Amenity Forum members can use to promote understanding of what they do. The first group of resources are now available on the Amenity Forum website with more in development.

Forum chairman Professor John Moverley said before he got involved in the organisation he little understood the work that went into pest, disease and weed control and that was the case for most of the general public.

To combat this, Moverley showed the conference one of the animated videos, which show how a family are able to safely move about, on pavements, roads and train tracks, because they are weed and vegetation-free.  

"It’s very simplistic but it’s trying to get over a message about why we’re doing it," he said. "It’s a little video clip but these things can help." He said a similar video about forestry got an airing on breakfast television.

"We want to get out that message to the public that it actually really matters what they do."

He said it was important for those working in the sector to be visible.

"If you want a resolution for the next six months, it is this. Don’t hide behind the barriers because you are being targeted on all sides. Be proud of what you do because you do something that’s really important to this nation and we need to get that out loud and clear."

The Amenity Forum was formed to encourage best practice in pesticide use and share the latest research and legislation developments that are relevant to the sector. The theme of this year's conference, on at The Pirelli Stadium in Burton-on-Trent, East Staffordshire today, is Important and Essential.
