The council completed a one-month trial hire of the Mid Series 22/8 hot water weed killing system, and has since decided to purchase it outright.
The aim of the trial hire was to put the Cardley-Wave system to practice in an urban city environment and monitor the results of hot water on weed and plant growth.
Neil Carsey from Aberdeen's environmental services division initially identified the system as a potential solution. Following the trial he concluded: "It's an excellent system which does exactly what it says on the tin and gets the job done perfectly."
Along with weed and moss killing the council is using the system to clean up graffiti and gum from the streets and deep clean around street furnishings.
The Mid Series 22/8 can also be used for high pressure jetting of hot water as well as for drain clearance allowing all-year utilisation for several street cleansing duties, which are part of the department's job, making the machine more cost-effective to buy.
