Symposium aims to develop street trees toolkit for urban planners

Featuring speakers from Trees and Design Action Group, the University of Manchester, Sheffield Hallam University and the Garden History Society, the symposium will explore the conflicts associated with street trees.

A draft agenda of the conference Do Street Trees Have a Future? is available online.

The event will reflect case studies, experiences and current practice as well as academic debate.

It will consider the case for and against street tress and will address issues such as health and well-being, economics, aesthetics, wind throw effects on trees and insurance.

The symposium will call for delegates to share their experiences with the aim of creating the basis for the development of a ‘street trees toolkit' for urban planners. The aim is to change policy and practice and inform the audience and planners on the actions required to safeguard the future of street trees.

Delegates will be able to accrue International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Continuing Education Units (CEU) and Arboricultural Association CPD hours.

The UK UNESCO Man and Biosphere (MAB) Urban Forum event is on 12 May at University College London Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre, Gower Street.

It is being held on collaboration with the Arboricultural Association, University College London Environment Institute and the International Society of Arboriculture.
