New SOLAs given for flumioxazin
By Jez Abbott Friday, 30 January 2009
Residual and contact herbicide flumioxazin has new off-label approvals for several horticultural crops.
These include outdoor top fruit, outdoor soft fruit, outdoor ornamentals, outdoor plant production and outdoor hops, said Interfarm.
Flumioxazin comes as SumiMax, Guillotine and Digital. The first two have SOLAs for outdoor hops, soft and top fruit, while Digital has SOLAs for forestry and ornamental production.
The substance controls broad-leaved weeds like charlock, chickweed, cleavers, common field speedwell, common poppy, field pansy, fumitory, groundsel and ivy-leaved speedwell.
Meanwhile pesticide chiefs have granted off-label approval to Alert marketed by BASF and containing alpha-cypermethrin.
The insecticide can be used on outdoor crops of Chinese cabbage, choi sum, collards including spring greens and Pak Choi for the control of flea beetle, caterpillars and aphids. Operators must wear protective clothing, and because there is a risk to aquatic life, restrictions apply to manual and mechanical spraying near stretches of water.
