Me & My Job - Chris Harris, managing director, TYM Tractors

What does your typical day involve? Depending on the season, I am in the office by 7am. I also run Surrey Power Machines and Richmonds Groundcare, so I start the day with an update on each. Another day may see me in the workshop getting my hands dirty.

What takes up most of your time? A large amount of my time is spent speaking to customers, ensuring we are meeting their needs. Emails are time consuming and administration a necessary evil.

Do you get out of the office as much as you would like? No, but these are exciting times for TYM, so I look forward to that changing. TYM Tractors has dealers across the UK and I would like to spend more time helping them promote the TYM product.

What is the best part of your job? Selling the right product for the right job at the right price. Hearing a customer is pleased with what I recommended is very rewarding.

And the worst? Machinery failures - often unforeseen but always inconvenient. That and paperwork.

What piece of kit can you not do without? I couldn't function without my mobile phone. At the touch of a button or two I can email orders, be online, take photographs and have a conference call.

How do you relax after work? Is there an after and why haven't I heard about it before? My 13-year-old daughter ensures I am kept busy - she is a big Girls Aloud fan so concerts are always interesting.

What does the future hold? We are looking forward to increasing the TYM market share in the UK and Europe - and a much-needed holiday somewhere warm too.
